Un matin d'Octobre très ensoleillé à l'île de Bréhat je recherchais un paysage pour installer mon chevalet. La lumière s'est posée sur cette étendue de galets et mon sujet du jour est devenu une évidence.
Malgré ce grand soleil l'air était vif ce jour là, alors sur cette toile peinte au couteau j'ai rajouté mon ressenti, le mouvement du vent dans le ciel, le rocher et les herbes. J'ai joué du couteau pour offrir à cette plage de galets blancs un environnement le plus vivant possible.

The White Pebbles

One sunny morning in October, I was looking for a special sea-view to paint. When I set down my easel and started to paint a marvellous light seemed to ignite from this sea of pebbles. And it suddenly dawned upon me that I had found the ideal subject.
On that very day, despite a radiant sunshine, the air was crisp.
I used a palette knife to give vent to my feelings and endeavoured to conjure up an all-pervading impression : the whirling wind playfully frolicking with the clouds in the sky and gently trifling with the rocks and grass. I happily managed to emphasize the lively sensations inherent in this precious moment.
