J'ai découvert la chapelle st Aubert lors d'un week-end enchanteur de fin d'automne au Mont St Michel. J'ai peint ce tableau dans des conditions un peu précaires tout juste avant l'arrivée de l'orage que l'on devine à l'horizon. On peut sentir dans la nervosité des touches de peinture l'urgence de la création mais également la véracité des couleurs.
On ressent également la solitude et le calme dans ce lieu à l'écart du monde et hors du temps.

I discovered Saint Aubert’s Chapel in the course of an enchanting holiday week-end which I took at the end of the autumn in Mont Saint Michel. I painted this artwork in very specific circumstances : the weather was quite unsettled as a storm was brewing. This can be perceived in my rendering of the gathering clouds looming on the horizon, in the background. Consequently there is a sort of nervous sense of urgency hovering over this picture. This sense of urgency is triggered not only by the necessity to capture the moment with its changing colours, but also by the act of creation itself. However, the pervading impression is one of calm and solitude. It seems that we are caught up in a moment out of time, away from the busy bustling world. This lovely quaint painting, costing less than 250 euros is a very reasonably priced « pleasure purchase ».
